Karadjordjeva, one of Belgrade’s oldest streets, has an immortal role of construction, preservation and deepening local identity. It was built as an elite part of the city in its earliest days, where the first insurance company in Belgrade was opened and where the first theatre play was held. The street is an important cultural heritage of the city.
I Am a Tyrant is an installation piece by Marija Iva Gocić and Boban Živanović made as an extension of the facade of the Kolektiv gallery located on Karadjordjeva Street. It represents a materialized voice of an object and its environment. The installation consists of large layered sheets of white paper repurposed as the facade of the gallery that faced the street. The fate of the facade was then to become the responsibility of the public, which was invited to interact with the installation in whatever way they wished. The piece reflects the publics attitude towards cultural heritage and its preservation.
