The Experience
The Experience is a project and an
experimental performance and dance collective from
Belgrade, Serbia.
Since its establishment in 2018, the collective has
been creating site-specific and immersive
performances that address issues of social
transformation, personal identity and freedom.
Driven by the personal states and dilemmas of its
members, The Experience Collective constructs
emotional landscapes for audiences to navigate,
inviting them to engage physically. At the core of their methodology lies their exploration of cyclicality. This cyclicality is not only reflected in the narrative structure but also manifests in the set design itself, often taking the form of a circular arrangement.

Choice is a performance piece that explores the theme of decision making. It examines situations where people must construct beliefs, take sides, or make decisions between contradictory options, both of which may seem equally acceptable, or more often, equally unacceptable.
During the performance, audience is navigated through the circular set. At the very end of the performance, audience is invited to revisit and explore the space at their own pace. No matter which path they take, they eventually find themselves back at the starting point.

This performance is inspired by Sartre’s work “Being and Nothingness”, where human consciousness can be interpreted as a “window” into the world. But since a window is also a hole in a wall, consciousness too, according to Sartre, can be understood as a hole in a being. Being conscious therefore implies feeling incomplete, like something is always lacking. This performance demonstrates the futility of trying to achieve completeness. Giving ourselves a social function is often a convenient way of trying to achieve this. But whenever we take up a social function, we need to be careful not to confuse this borrowed identity with our own.
Although in a small space (approx. 50 m2), the performance draws the audience into a kind of labyrinth, both spatial and temporal, leaving them with an existential feeling. It consists of four parts that share subject matter and are taking place simultaneously in four separate rooms. It is played continuously in a loop as the audience visits the rooms one at the time. The performance had four reruns and was attended by 2,000 people.

Muted Privacy is a 6-act performance piece held in 2019, performed by the Experience collective as a part of the Pride festival in Belgrade, which was chosen that year to be the host of EuroPride 2022. It took place in a large underground facility in the city center. Muted Privacy aims to emphasise the importance of rejecting prejudices and creating conversations. Commenting on the relationship between society and its marginalised groups, the performers explore commonalities between the oppressed and their oppressors.

Iskra.Kozma (2019)
performance and installation
Lansiranje & Experience Collective
Festival Svetlosti Beograd
location: Cultural Centre Grad
Belgrade, Serbia
Iskra.Kozma is a performance and light installation. It is a new take on Petar Petrović Njegoš work from 1845. titled “Luča Mikrokozma”, the performance explores the cosmic lights, heavenly landscapes and searches for reasons why man fell from heaven. Iskra.Kozma travels, passes, disappears and then returns. It creates space and enables movement to be illuminated in it. After a successful launching into this weird world, the performance grew into a party.
